PARADISE BOUND (Joiner, R. 2018) Tet-D-M-Re-S20”-B5”Red sky at night, a sailor’s delight, according to the old saying. Gaze into this red sunset dropping to the horizon amid red infused clouds. For a moment, the sun intensifies to a brilliant burst of yellow through the rose pink clouds, and you have PARADISE BOUND. Like the clouds and sunset, PARADISE BOUND is a study in striking simplicity, blending the traditional form with ruffles, edging, color blends, and artistic veining. The throat is chartreuse, blending to a rosy-crimson watermark, conspicuously darkening to saturated crimson as it begins the recurving of petals and sepals. The edges appear smooth before becoming tightly gathered ruffles in the lower third, and the petals are outlined in a ruffled thin yellow edge. The veins provide a charming sunburst impression to the heavily recurved 5” bloom, lending roundness to the overall appearance. The polished surface and heavy substance lend further interest to this sophisticated TET. The dormant foliage is deep green, with 20”scapes that branch 3 ways with a bud count of 15. Beginning its bloom in mid season, it is an excellent rebloomer here in 8b. PARADISE BOUND is a statement of simplicity accented in the chic accessories of sunset. Truly an amazing daylily!
